Planning for River Ranger Teams Workshop
Goal: The goal of this workshop is to help lead River Rangers and/or river program managers develop concise and useful annual work plans for their ranger teams.
Objectives: During this workshop we hope participants will learn:
- Why planning is important.
- What are the key elements of an effective plan.
- How to build an annual plan that improves program efficiency and teamwork, and provides a clear map to success for all team members.
- How to communicate your program vision, strategic objectives and annual goals and achieve buy-in from all team members and your supervisors.
- How to use your plan to improve program accountability.
Who this training will benefit: First, this training will benefit frontline river program managers by helping them clarify goals and set work priorities for themselves and their teams - and, help them with communicating those goals and priorities. Second, the entire ranger team will benefit from having greater job clarity and understanding.
Program format and participant time expectations:
- Register
- Receive pre-workshop assignments (estimate 2 hours for completion).
- Attend Feb. 23rd 90-minute Zoom meeting from 10am - 11:30am PT, during which we'll address the items in the program objectives.
- Develop and write draft plan (estimate 16 hours for completion)
- Email draft plan to instructor and schedule one-on-one follow up meeting.
- Conduct 60-minute Zoom follow up meeting.
- Make revisions to plan, if necessary (estimate 2 hours for completion).
- Final 30-minute follow up meeting with instructor, if necessary.
Total estimated time for participating teams - 20 to 23 hours.
Schedule of events:
- Feb. 13 - pre-workshop assignments are distributed
- Feb. 23 - 90 minute Zoom call from 10am - 11:30am PT
- Mar. 15 - draft plans due
- Mar. 16 through Mar. 31 - one-on-one meetings with instructor
