Environmental Justice on the River... Where is it?

Environmental Justice Roundtable

River Management Roundtable
June 13 | 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. ET

We have learned that equality is not the same as equity is not the same as justice. Without addressing structural barriers, we may fall short of providing opportunities to those who have been intentionally uninvited to their local river. In this session, Stephanie Stroud from the National Park Service Rivers Trails Conservation Assistance Program will share successes, struggles and reflections on her work and mission to provide access to recreation in environmental justice communities, and we will ask you to share your insights and how issues are being addressed on your river, or not.

Presenter

Stephanie Stroud

Stephanie Stroud (she/her) is a community planner for the National Park Service Rivers Trails and Conservation Assistance Program. In her work, she partners with local advocates to raise community voices and connect people to their close-to-home recreation opportunities. She strives to empower those who have traditionally been underrepresented in planning processes.
She studied landscape architecture at the University of Connecticut and is now trained as a community engagement specialist and facilitator to help observe, listen to, and research outdoor spaces and the communities that call them home. In her spare time, she is a cyclist, hiker, musician and a beeswax candle maker.

About RMS River Management Roundtables

Each month, the River Management Society hosts virtual conversations with professional river, greenway, and water trails leaders, planners, and managers whose community, region, state and federal river will benefit from the experiences of peer-to-peer sharing. Our goal is to facilitate an open forum to support your work managing rivers. We work together to tackle common issues by asking questions, sharing solutions and building comradery.
