The River Management Society's Southwest Chapter is excited to host the annual River Ranger Rendezvous on Labyrinth Canyon National Scenic River on Utah's stunning Green River! 

For decades, the River Ranger Rendezvous has brought together professionals responsible for the day-to-day management of our nation's rivers to share practical ideas, build leadership and technical skills, and learn from one another in the field. Open to all river and resource professionals, not just those with the title "river ranger," the Rendezvous provides participants with new skills, fresh perspectives, and a network of colleagues on whom they can rely long after the trip ends.

The program is expected to include sessions on the history of stream access in the United States, inflatable boat field repair, how Wild and Scenic Rivers Act designation worked here in the canyon, Indigenous perspectives on river management, and stream restoration theory for Southwestern rivers.

The registration fee for this trip is $250, or $200 for RMS members. Non-members are invited to join RMS and save! The deadline to register is August 28, 2026. Registrants will have the option to pay by card or by mailing a check.

Logistics & What to Expect

This is a 70-mile flatwater backcountry river trip, 54 miles of which are a designated scenic river canyon. The river bed and banks are managed by the State of Utah as State Sovereign Land, and uplands are managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management - Moab Field Office. The majority of the river right uplands are designated as the "Labyrinth Canyon Wilderness." The river left contains the majority of the designated Scenic River Corridor and additionally includes the Labyrinth Rims Travel Management Area. Learn more on the Bureau of Land Management's website.

Take-out Location: Mineral Bottom Boat Ramp

Host Agency: Utah Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands (FFSL)

Available space: Labyrinth Canyon has a 25 person maximum overnight group size limit. The exact group size will be determined by: the volume of expressed interest, needed/available passenger space on boats, and availability of qualified boat operators.

Provided:

• Two 16’ Oarframe Gear Rafts
• Groover
• Large-group kitchen
• PFDs for all participants
• Group meals
• Interpretive and educational sessions
• Shuttle Services: Participants meet at Green River State Park. Shuttle service provider will transport participants back to Green River State Park from Mineral Bottom Takeout at the end of the trip.

Participant will provide:

• Boat (If possible, please bring your own boat. Participants without boats will be assigned to available rafts.)
• Self-transportation to and from Moab/Ruby Ranch/Green River, UT vicinity (exact logistics TBD)
• Camping gear: Tent, sleeping bag, pad, chair
• Personal items, toiletries, cup
• Signed liability release waiver for both RMS and Utah FFSL
