River Management Symposium: Wild, Scenic and Beyond!

Vancouver, Washington   8:00 AM - Noon, October 22, 2018

 

The RMS River Training Center hosts the first Instructor Certification Training Program in conjunction with the Wild, Scenic and Beyond! River Management Symposium in Vancouver, Washington. The Instructor Training Certification Program begins with a half day workshop from 8:00 AM to Noon, Monday, October 22, 2018.

This initial workshop introduces participants to the River Training Center Instructor Program, describes the types of Instructor Certification, rolls out the 2019 schedule for Instructor Training and provides initial training. Trainees will be asked to self-identify their level of commitment to participate in 2019 instructor trainings.

Following the Vancouver workshop, the River Training Center will host a series of instructor training virtual meetings and in-person workshops (format and location to be determined) scheduled in 2019. The workshops will be taught by professional educators and subject matter experts.

The River Training Center Instructor Training Certification Program offers a fantastic opportunity for you to enhance your career! The Instructor Trainer Program is open to all individuals with a passion for rivers who desire to learn and grow with colleagues and how to train others with innovative professional learning and best practices for the field. We welcome you as a representative of your city, county, state or federal resource agency staff, non-profit organization, or academic institution. We encourage you to apply regardless of your age, gender, experience, or stage in your career.

Space will be limited for this initial workshop. Registration is open on the RMS website. Registration is required to attend and is separate from RMS Symposium registration.

River Training Center Overview

The River Management Society (RMS) is launching the River Training Center whose vision is to be the leader of innovation, professional learning, and best practices for river professionals. The River Training Center is the next step for RMS as we pursue our mission to support professionals who study, protect, and manage North America's rivers through ongoing professional development, access to information and education, and collaboration. RMS is the leader of professional learning in the arena of river management with proven expertise since 1972. The River Training Center solidifies RMS educational offerings by making innovative tools and best practices easily accessible to river professionals who represent a broad range of rivers and the many types of users who work on and for rivers and whose diversity is geographic, social, and cultural. 

The RMS River Training Center seeks to advance the profession of river management by providing educational opportunities to river management 8_Core_Competencies_IIspecialists, non-specialists with some responsibility for river management, non-profit organizations interested in river protection and recreation, academic institutions and members of the river community. The River Training Center will develop and deliver educational materials centered around the eight core competencies identified for river managers (Interagency Wild and Scenic Rivers Coordinating Council 2018).

The River Training Center is a mobile field institute utilizing a team of certified instructors. The River Training Center will offer training opportunities through e-courses, webinars, short courses and multi-day workshops. Courses will be developed and delivered by RMS certified instructors. The River Training Center strives to create multiple opportunities each year for river professionals to learn, train and collaborate with colleagues to further enhance their careers and professional expertise.
