Measuring Belonging, Participation, and Teamwork on your River Trip? There's an app for that!

FOTJ App

River Management Roundtable
June 11| 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. ET

It's ten days into a five-week river trip with a group you know fairly well. Sort of. How are you doing, really? Is the experience meeting your expectations, or are there times you have felt unsure about your role and level of acceptance and effectiveness with others in your group? This month, we'll learn about an exciting new app developed for a five-week immersive river studies program, which allows group leaders to collect participant feedback during an expedition that merges the exploration of human and natural histories in the James River and its watershed in central Virginia. As students learn by first-hand "experience, observation and reflection" and contribute to the management of the "Footprints on the James" expedition, they will be logging aspects of their experience previously tapped into only through one-on-one check-ins with their trip leaders.

Rodney Dyer, PhD will share the interest and need for the FOTJ ‘proof of concept’ app  (named for the Footprints on the James River program during which it is being used) based on a more general Objective/Assessment app called EcoConnect. We'll discuss what the instructors hope to learn and how you might use this tool for your organization and workgroup!

FOTJ is available in the Apple App Store for no fee (the Android version has not been developed). Download it and bring questions about its potential application for your team of river professionals to grow your effectiveness as an entity ... and perhaps have more fun along the way!

Registration

On the second Tuesday of the month, the River Management Society hosts River Management Roundtables (virtual discussions) with professional river, greenway, and water trails leaders, planners, and managers whose river will benefit from the experiences of peer-to-peer sharing. Our goal is to facilitate an open forum in which you can ask questions, share solutions and build comradery. There's no fee or membership requirement to attend, but registration is required to help us set expectations and improve our outreach.
